The SPM guidance and college counseling staff supports each student in opening the many doors to their personal, academic, social, and spiritual development throughout their Jr. high and high school years. The department is involved with a structured wellness curriculum during freshman year that assists students in their transition to high school.  Individual student planning meetings throughout a student’s school career provide personalized guidance, support, and encouragement. Counselors also serve as the intermediary between families and the faculty.

Parents are invited to seek out the advice of the counselor as often as necessary and are encouraged to attend a variety of events hosted by the guidance and college counseling departments.

College Counseling
SPM devotes considerable time and resources to the process of advising students in the college selection process. Beginning freshman year, they are introduced to important elements of the admissions process during an Early College Planning presentation. In all individual guidance planning meetings, academic preparation and the pursuit of passions and interests is stressed, so students will be well prepared to apply.

As juniors and seniors, students work with a college counselor and participate in both group and individual activities in order to learn all of the details of the application process. Additionally, we host a series of evening programs for students and parents, offering insight and step-by-step guidance on admissions and financial assistance processes.

Senior year students participate in group meetings and individual counseling sessions to insure the finer details of applying to college are understood. Our counseling staff spends considerable time writing comprehensive recommendations. We also provide assistance in reviewing a student’s college essay and applications, making certain that they are aware of admission requirements of each of the colleges to which they are applying.
